Every September, the storied East Sussex town of Lewes throws open its doors to the general public to celebrate the spirit of making. From grand buildings and gallery spaces to people’s sitting rooms, Artwave Festival is a dual celebration of the warm, welcoming hospitality of Lewes, and the celebration of making things slowly, carefully, by hand, and with imagination.

It’s a tangible display of the creativity that has run through the town for centuries, the historic home of Charleston House & The Bloomsbury Group, Thomas Paine and a catalog of contemporary creative people.

We’re very proud to be a Lewes business, having been established in the town since 1984 - 42 years and counting - and playing our small part in continuing that tradition of hand-made excellence.

This year, we hosted young artist Eddie Clark. Eddie is a fantastic up-and-coming talent, best known for his mixed media Lewes Landscapes series, with his striking use of colour catching the public’s eye on Cliffe High Street, distracting people from what they were doing, drawing people into our showroom to spend time taking in his work.

Eddie produced a new series of paintings for Artwave 2026, and his evolution over the past year is clear for all to see. At our private viewing - a first for Alistair Fleming - Eddie sold a commission within 5 minutes of the first guest walking through the door.

This is a testament to his skill and vision, as is his being picked for advertising Artwave on the Dieppe Ferry - one of five artists from the 200+ taking part in Artwave.

We’re grateful that Eddie will continue to display his artwave in our basement gallery for the near future, as part of our evolving use of that space. We welcome visitors to come and have a look, and love that our showroom continues to collaborate with exceptional local creative talents, following a successful residency by Studio 9 Living, who have since gone on to open a new site in Brighton, along with dressing our kitchens with ceramics by Brickett Davda this summer.

Brickett Davda ceramics now decorate our show kitchens.

Every year, it’s wonderful to keep experiencing the creative spirit of Lewes, and continue to be at the heart of it; our exceptional design & craftsmanship being central to all the Alistair Fleming team does.
